Zambia vs Ghana

Zambia Coach herve Renard got his wish.

ZNBC’s Franklin Tembo Jr.: Between Ghana and Tunisia, which one would you prefer to play?

HR: Ghana of course, they have been the best team in the past few years, they almost reached the world cup semi final and they have been consistent. I really can’t choose but their game tonight will decide…… I was assistant coach for the Ghana team and I know them very well; I would want to play them.

Moses Sichone, I am waiting for your prediction. Your last two predictions (Zambia vs Equatorial Guinea, Zambian vs Sudan) were spot on.

Mike and Moses, I still don’t understand why Keita and Mali are being underrated. Even Zambia Coach Herve Renard thought that Cote d’ Ivoire would meet Gabon in the Semi-Finals. “They [Cote d' Ivoire] are very strong, they did not concede any goal. It will be a fantastic semi final as they are likely to meet Gabon. But they beat Sudan 1 – 0 and we beat Sudan 3 – 0.” Renard speaking to ZNBC before Mali beat co-hosts Gabon.

Let me make a prediction. Two teams will make it to the Finals.

I will be rooting for Chipolopolo. ‘Ba Zambia chipolopolo iye!, ba Zambia chipolopolo iye! I am singing my lungs out.

This Ghana team is not the same team that nearly reached the 2010 WC semi-finals. Gyan is not scoring goals. Guess who is scoring goals for Ghana, an unlikely defender only named ‘the Rock of Gibraltar’ aka John Mensah. There is no Kevin Prince Boateng, Steven Appiah and Richard kingston. Get me right, there are still a great team but their key players are still off form and rely heavily on luck and set pieces to win games. They beat Botswana 1-0 after John Mensah did a ‘luis Suarez’ on the Botswana striker. They beat Mali but they were never convincing.

They drew 1-1 with 10 man Guinea that looked the better side. They had to wait for about 110 minutes of football to see off Tunisia, thanks to a mistake by the Tunisian goalkeeper. On the other hand Zambia cruised 3-0 against Sudan and had previoulsy brushed aside Equ. Guinea and ‘favourates’ Senegal. Zambia is a team on a MISSION and let’s hope they beat Ghana in regulation time tonight.

Dutch League Champions want “Malawi’s Essien
November 12th, 2010

……If he can’t be given a two year leave of absence then at least promote him. In 2007 the Zambian army promoted Zambia National Team Captain Christopher Katongo to sergeant from corporal in honour of the hat-trick that he scored against South Africa on 9 September 2007.

The midfielder’s three goals helped the Chipolopolo Boys beat South Africa 3-1, a result that saw Zambia qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2008.

Katongo’s new rank was conferred on him at Lusaka’s Arackan barracks on Tuesday, 11 September, 2007.

“I’m very happy, I want to thank the army for recognising my efforts,” he said shortly before returning to Denmark where he used to play for first division side Brondby. (In August 2008, Katongo joined German club Arminia Bielefeld).

“I’ll continue working hard and do Zambia proud.”

Zambia Army spokesperson Colonel Dan Chambaila told BBC Sport. “We want to encourage our sportsmen and women.

“The commander felt that as a way of congratulating Katongo, he should be promoted, he has done us proud.

“Even as he plays his club football in Denmark, we want to assure him that he will be welcomed back in the army when he returns to Zambia.”

Though the Chipolopolo Boys were eliminated in the first round at the Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2008, Katondo played exceptionally well. Guess what? Zambia Army Commander General Isaac Chisuzi promoted him again, this time to to the rank of staff sergeant. “We were impressed with Katongo’s performance at the African Cup of Nations tournament and this is the only way we can appreciate his hard work. It is a way of motivating him to work even harder,” Chisuzi said.

Folks, the Zambia National Team Captain has been promoted again. This time his impressive performance at AFCON 2012 has earned him an elevation to the rank of Warrant Officer Class One. Zambia army spokesperson Christopher Musonda said in a statement: “The president of the republic of Zambia and commander in chief of the armed forces His Excellence Michael Chilufya Sata, has promoted Zambia national soccer team captain Christopher Katongo to warrant officer class one with immediate effect for displaying exemplary leadership and skill in the team which has contributed to the team’s good performance.” Sata announced Katongo’s promotion on the eve of Zambia’s quarterfinal match against Sudan in Bata on Saturday. Katongo scored the second goal via penalty.

Zambia captain Christopher Katongo told the BBC before the AFCON 2012 tournament: “As we go to Gabon, every heart will pump so fast when we remember what happened in 1993. The souls are still there and we have to do something about what happened to that team which perished in Gabon.”

One win away. Come on boys!

10′ Cote d’ Ivoire 0:0 Mali

Let’s see if another tournament favourite will fall

45′ Goaaaaaaaaaaal!!!!!!! Cote d’ Ivoire 1:0 Mali (Gervinho)

Half Time: Cote d’ Ivoire 1:0 Mali

Full Time: Cote d’ Ivoire 1:0 Mali

Finals: Zambia vs Cote d’ Ivoire

Meanwhile, Black Stars skipper John Mensah has apologised to his nation following the 1-0 defeat in Bata earlier today. “We are sorry for the whole of Ghana for what happened today,” he said. “It’s unlucky that we lost this game. We promise them we will come back strongly next year.”

Are they going to make it to AFCON South Africa 2013?

Malawi will carry the day 3-1 against Chad.Remember,no team stays the same. They either improve or go downhill. In this case I have every reason to believe that Chad are improving but still lag behind talent wise and tactically. However it will not be easy at all as the score will be 1-1 at the half. Now coming to the AFCON tournament like I said Zambia will carry the day 2-0.If for some reason they don’t score within the first 45minutes the match will end 0-0 and will go into penalties where Ivory Coast will carry the day.Zambia needs to score within the first 45minutes and take Ivory Coast by surprise or else they will be in trouble.

tk, I agree with you that no team stays the same. We’ll talk more about Malawi after this tournament is over.

Now coming to the AFCON tournament like I said Zambia will carry the day 2-0

Please note that the Elephants haven’t conceded a goal this tournament. I think the Elephants will score at least 2 goals. The Black Stars would have beaten Zambia if they had the likes of Drogba, Toure and some good luck.

If for some reason they don’t score within the first 45minutes the match will end 0-0 and will go into penalties where Ivory Coast will carry the day

I think if it goes into penalties Zambia will carry the day. The Ivorians will be thinking about Gyan’s penalty miss or rather Mweene’s penalty save.

Zambia needs to score within the first 45 minutes and take Ivory Coast by surprise or else they will be in trouble.”

I think they need to park the bus and hope that the game goes into penalty shoot-outs. There is a huge mismatch.
