COSAFA Senior Challenge: Mozambique 1 Malawi 0
The quarter final game between Malawi and Mozambique was played today and Malawi lost 1-0. No biggie it was just a “friendly” but what about the effect on Fifa Rankings?
Though the tournament is already in the quarter-final stage there are doubts over COSAFA Prize Money. The prize money for the COSAFA Senior Challenge is still to be secured amid reports that African broadcasters are not paying for the television broadcasting rights. Sue Destombes, the COSAFA chief executive officer told Standardsport on Friday: “The situation is still the same. We have not secured the cash prizes for the nations. It’s still work in progress and we should be meeting a potential sponsor.”
Turning to television rights, Destombes said COSAFA was not receiving anything from television rights. Television stations in the Middle East had also snubbed them.
Top South Africa pay-per-view sports channel, Supersport is beaming the matches for free.
“We are getting nothing from television rights. South Africa’s Supersport is airing the matches for nothing. All the broadcasters in the region have cited the economic crunch,” Destombes said.
“We also approached some television stations in Middle East who said they could only come if there was a team from their region”
Since Malawi are out of the competition this is my last post on the tournament. You can follow the rest of the tournament here.

The Flames just need to depend on Ivory Coast. It seems we can’t win away games.

I was supporting Malawi. They could have won the game. They could have taken the lead after just 10 minutes as Mozambique keeper Albino Cossa gifted possession to Chiukepo Msowoya, but the striker wasted the chance and the keeper recovered to gather the low shot.
Malawi’s Victor Nyirenda and Hellings Mwakasungula were both denied by the Mozambique keeper in the 30th and 33rd before the Mambas took the lead.
