GUINEA 2 MALAWI 1
Guinea just beat Malawi 2-1 today. Both Guinea goals were scored by Pascal Feindouno (24th and 42nd minutes). Pascal Feindouno scored the first goal when Guinea beat Malawi 3-1 in September 2005. Today’s Malawi lone goal was scored by Chiukepo Msowoya (89th minute).
Hoping against hope, should Malawi continue to hope although the outlook does not warrant it?
SOUTH AFRICA (WORLD CUP):
Ivory Coast currently lead Group E. They have 9 points, scored 10 goals and conceded 3. Malawi have 0 points, scored 1 goal and conceded 8. Ivory Coast have a 14 goal advantage over Malawi. Assuming Ivory Coast lose their remaining 3 games and assuming Malawi win their remaining 3 games the two teams will have 9 points each. Will Malawi score 14 goals in the remaining 3 games? Will that be the 10th Wonder of the World?
ANGOLA (African Nations Cup):
Malawi have two home games left, against Ivory Coast and Guinea. Ivory Coast have won all their away games and one can predict that they will win again in Malawi. I think Malawi will beat Guinea but criteria for qualification will be based on Group standings. The goals for and against other teams will be factored in. Currently, Guinea have a 4 goal advantage over Malawi. I think the most important game for Malawi will be the one between Guinea and Ivory Coast in Ivory Coast. 5-0? Ivory Coast will play Burkina Faso on September 5th, Malawi on October 10th and Guinea on November 11th. By the time they (Ivory Coast) play Guinea they will have already secured the 1st spot so I don’t think they will feature their best squad against Guinea. That means Malawi will have to take care of business when they play against Guinea on September 5th. Winning 2-0 will not be enough. I understand Malawi was the better team today so may be they will win 5-0 in Malawi.
At the end of the day on September 5th, I think we’ll know the three teams that will go to Angola and the one team that will go to South Africa. If Malawi will not be one of them, will they need to include foreign-based players the last two games? Financial-wise I would say no. Team cohesion-wise I would say yes. What say you?

Well, to all readers please read my previous comments, couldn’t be more clearer.

If Malawi fails to beat Guinea at home it will be a waste of money buying tickets for foreign players to come and camp for the last two games. The saved money can be used to buy tickets for the local players for the away game against Burkina Faso.

The coach is also to blame for the loss. Fischer Kondowe had not played for the Flames since March, when he broke his toe while training with Bloemfontein Celtic, ruling himself out of the country’s back-to-back Group E qualifiers against Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso. The coach made him a late inclusion in his Guinea bound lean squad to replace Escom United defensive midfielder Jacob Ngwira. What happened today? Fischer was taken out of the game in the 42nd minute after Guinea had already done the damage.

Malawi suffers another loss in Guinea

We’ll need to fill the Kamuzu Stadium in September and give ma Flames all the support so they shoudn’t have excuses. If we missed 6 clear chances today then we’ll score a lot of goals here.

Are we still equals Malawi? Football is about scoring. We have 3 points and you have 0. Ivory Coast beat us 2-1 here at home and Burkina Faso beat us 4-2 away. We’ll collect at least a point when we play at home against Burkina Faso. So even if you beat us in Malawi we’ll still qualify.

Chiukepo has proved to be a scorer but Kinnah doesn’t start him.
