MALAWI FLAMES TO PLAY AGAINST UGANDA CRANES
The Malawi Flames will play a friendly against The Uganda Cranes on March 21, 2009. The match will be played at Mandela National Stadium Namboole.
This will be a good test for Malawi Flames before they play against Ivory Coast on March 29th. Uganda Cranes are ranked 69th on the FIFA World Rankings and are the CECAFA Champions. In January of this year Uganda won her 10th record CECAFA accolade after a hard fought 1-nil victory over neighbors Kenya. The regional trophy was seen as a perfect consolation for the country that had been painfully eliminated from the on going qualifiers for the 2010 South Africa world Cup and Angola African Cup of Nations.
The Cranes have lined up a lot of friendlies in the coming months. They are just trying to keep busy ahead of their next competitive matches in late 2010. They are building a team for future competitions. During the CECAFA Tournament they fielded a new Cranes team mainly comprising local clubs’ youngsters. The only foreign based players were: team captain Andy Mwesigwa (Iceland), Massa Godfrey (Egypt) and Midfielder Daniel Wagaluka (Tanzania).
Though they fielded a young team they still managed to win the tournament by beating long time rivals Rwanda 4-0, Tanzania 2-1, Somalia 4-0, Burundi 5-0 and Kenya 1-0. The Flames will need to keep Brian Omony (The New Marksman On The Block) in check. He won the Golden Boot with 6 goals. He also scored the two goals for Cranes in an away 2-0 friendly win against Sudan on March 7th, 2009. If the Flames can’t contain Brian Omony then on March 29th they will have a tough time containing in-form Emmanuel “The Goal Machine” Eboue. Eboue got his mojo back and now he’s playing with swagger.
Go Flames! Amjojo if you’ve been dreaming of playing for an English Premiership League Team your dream is about to become a reality. Beat Drogba and Ivory Coast. Agents will be watching.

Will the Flames make it to Uganda? Will they have funds to camp away from Malawi for over a week? If they play Uganda on the 21st where will they camp before they play Ivory Coast on March 29th? Let’s wait and see.

Thats good for the Cranes b’se this helps the coach to choose a consistent lineup & it also helps the players to get used to international games.Credit should be given to the Fufa president Lawrence Mulindwa for the good work he has done.

Sengendo, I would like to thank your country (Uganda) for offering to meet all Flames’ expenses for four days. That’s very nice of your country.
If The Cranes can maintain this young team until 2010, they will be a tough nut to crack.
